Safe start-up with a woodworking machine
Fixed routine before you turn on the machine
Most machine accidents occur because something routine was skipped. A fixed routine you follow every time eliminates most errors. Use the one here as a base model — and always follow the specific instructions for the machine you are at.
§Before you turn on
- 01Have you received training on this specific machine, and are you allowed to use it?
- 02Are the protective screens and guards in place correctly?
- 03Is extraction on and is the tool sharp and correctly mounted?
- 04Are you wearing hearing protection and eye protection — and no loose sleeves, cords, or jewelry?
- 05Is the table cleared and are the right aids such as pushers and stops ready?
§While you work
- 01Keep hands at a safe distance from the cutting tool — use pusher
- 02Feed the piece smoothly and in a controlled manner, and don't force
- 03Stand safely and don't reach over a running machine
§When you are done.
- 01Switch off the machine and wait until the tool comes to a complete stop
- 02Clean machine and table, and put your aids away
- 03Report errors and shortages further so they can be corrected
