Checklist: Safe handling of airbags and electrical equipment in auto saddlery
Before, during, and after work with car seats, airbags, and seatbelt tensioners
Follow this checklist every time a task involves electrically powered seat devices, airbags or safety belt pretensioners.
§Before the work
- 01Disconnect the car's battery and wait the manufacturer's prescribed time before proceeding
- 02Check if the seat has built-in heating motors or other electrical equipment.
- 03Ground yourself before handling removed airbag modules or seat tighteners
§During the work.
- 01Never perform resistance measurement directly on airbag or seat belt tensioner connectors
- 02Carefully separate wires, heating mats and motors from the upholstery, and note where they were
- 03Avoid shocks heat and open flame near pyrotechnic components.
§Storage
- 01Store removed airbags and seatbelt tensioners separately
- 02Place with ignition key down, away from heat sources
- 03Mark clearly which car and which seat the parts belong to
§After work
- 01Reinstall electrical equipment correctly and test function before delivery
- 02A deployed airbag or seatbelt tensioner must be replaced — never reused
- 03Dispose of expired pyrotechnic components according to manufacturer's instructions, never in ordinary waste
