After the journeyman certificate: further and continuing education
What you can build on when you are skilled in residential assembly
When you have your journeyman certificate you are not done learning – you just have a solid foundation to build on. A skilled background in residential installation opens several paths depending on whether you want deeper into the craft up into management or completely into something new.
§Courses and specialisation
The easiest path to more is short, targeted courses — including labour market training (AMU). Here you can develop skills in new materials, techniques or machinery without having to restart a whole qualification. It is how many skilled workers stay updated while in their jobs.

§The way towards master and own business
If you want your own business, it is not just about craft - you also need to be able to run a company. Here courses in economics, accounting, management and entrepreneurship can make the difference between a workshop that runs and one that doesn't. Many skilled workers take these kinds of business courses alongside work before they jump out as self-employed.
§Further at higher education level
A vocational apprenticeship does not close the door to higher education — quite the opposite. If you take a vocational gymnasium course (EUX) in parallel or later supplement with gymnasium subjects you can apply to professional academy and professional bachelor programmes. Design technical commercial or production-oriented directions lie naturally in continuation of a trade about materials shape and function.
§Instructor and trainer.
With a few years' experience you yourself can become the one who teaches — as an instructor at a workshop that takes apprentices or eventually as a vocational school teacher. It is a way to pass on the trade and at the same time have a different day than at the workshop bench.
§Make a plan
You don't need to know everything in advance. But it helps to think ahead: do you want to be the sharpest craftsman in the workshop, do you want your own business, or do you want further in the system? Talk to your vocational teacher, your trade union and experienced people in the industry - they know the paths and can point you in the right direction.
