Process: a complete shoeing
Standard procedure from arrival to final inspection
§1. Receipt and assessment
- 01Talk with the owner about the horse's use and any problems
- 02Look at the horse standing and in movement
- 03Assess the hoof's condition and current shoeing
§2. Removal and pruning
- 01Remove the old bracket carefully
- 02Clean the hoof and assess balance and length
- 03Crop to correct balance without removing too much
§3. Fitting the shoe
- 01Choose appropriate shoes for the hoof
- 02Shape and fit the shoe (hot or cold)
- 03Check that shoe lies flat and fits the hoof shape
§4. Immersion and completion
- 01Nail the shoe firmly with correct nail placement
- 02Rivet the nail points down and file afterwards
- 03Look at the horse in movement and note for next visit
