Checklist: safe disconnection before work on system
The fixed steps before you lay hands on electricity, pressure or moving parts
Use this checklist as a fixed routine before you work on an installation. The point is that the order is the same every time, so you don't skip a step because the task seems small or you are in a hurry. Always adapt it to your company's own procedure.
§1. Stop and identify
Find the right breaker and disconnect the system. Make sure you have the right supply — not the neighbor's system. Think about whether the system can be fed from more than one place.

§3. Verify that the voltage is gone
Measure after the voltage is actually off at the place you are working. Check that your meter works before and after. Never assume – measure.
§4. Release stored energy
- 01Empty or isolate pressure in hydraulics and pneumatics.
- 02Secure springs weights and parts that can fall or jump.
- 03Be aware of capacitors and other equipment that can hold energy.
§5. Start only then — and finish correctly
When the system is secure you can work. When you are done you remove tools and people from the hazard area set safety functions in place and report ready before power is applied again.
