Template: Systematic troubleshooting on a system
A method for narrowing down the error instead of guessing
Good troubleshooting is about method, not luck. Use this approach to narrow down the fault step by step — it works, whether the system is large or small.
§1 — Safety first
- 01Assess hazards: voltage moving parts pressure
- 02Make it de-energized and secure against re-energization where required
- 03Have diagrams and documentation ready
§2 — Describe the symptom
- 01What works, and what doesn't?
- 02When did the error occur and under what circumstances?
- 03Are there error messages on the control or panel?
§3 — Divide the system into blocks
- 01Follow the signal path: sensor → control → actuator
- 02Find out where the signal is correct and where it disappears
- 03Narrow down the error to one block at a time
§4 — Measure and confirm
- 01Measure voltage current and continuity with multimeter
- 02Compare with the diagram and expected values
- 03Confirm the reason before you replace anything
§5 — Correct and test
