Template: Damage assessment and documentation for insurance

How to keep up with a field that never stops changing

Use this template as a checklist when you document damage to be claimed on insurance.

§Before repair

  • 01Take pictures of the damage from multiple angles in good light
  • 02Note the extent of damage: which layers and parts are affected
  • 03Note the car's colour code and any special conditions (metallic paint, previous repairs)

§Under review.

  • 01Assess whether the part should be repaired or replaced and justify the choice
  • 02Calculate time consumption and materials, including any flexible products
  • 03Note special conditions in plastic or composite repairs that are easily overlooked

§Communication

  • 01Send the damage assessment to the surveyor or insurance company
  • 02Wait for approval before work is expanded beyond what was agreed
  • 03Contact the company again if hidden damage is discovered along the way

§After repair

  • 01Take pictures of the finished result
  • 02Note actual time and material consumption
  • 03Store the documentation so it can be found in case of later questions
