The spray gun, the painters, and the products that tie it all together
The auto painter's result depends not only on craftsmanship but also on choosing the right products and using the tools correctly. A coating is built up in several layers, each with its own purpose, and each layer requires its own equipment and technique.
§The spray gun
The spray gun is the painter's most important tool. It atomises the varnish with compressed air into a fine mist that settles as an even layer. Adjustment of air volume, material volume, and spread determines how fine and even the layer becomes. A well-adjusted gun and a steady hand are the prerequisite for varnish without runs and streaks.

§The layers in a coat of paint
A modern car paint job typically consists of several layers built up from the bottom. Each layer has a specific function and the interaction is what gives a strong and beautiful surface.

§Water-based vs. solvent-based
Many base paints are now water-based for the sake of the environment and the working environment. They require good air circulation in the booth to dry and a slightly different technique than the older solvent-based paints. Clear coat and certain products can still be solvent-based. Regardless of type, the product data sheet must be followed — it specifies mixing ratio, drying time and temperature.
§Cabin, ventilation and mixing system
The paint booth is the shop's heart: a closed, ventilated and heatable room that keeps dust out and removes paint fumes. The mixing system with pigments and a precise scale makes it possible to mix the exact color by recipe. Together, they ensure a clean environment and a reproducible color — two things that are crucial for a professional result.
