Safe workplace by the road — step by step

A fixed routine you can follow every time you arrive at a breakdown

When you arrive at a stranded vehicle the first few minutes are the most important for your safety. Follow the same routine every time so it becomes a habit that protects you – even the days when you are busy.

§1. Assess the situation before you step out

Where is the vehicle? How fast is the traffic? Is there a good view, or do cars suddenly appear around a corner or over a hill? Get an overview while you are still safely seated.

§2. Place your own vehicle as a shield

Position your breakdown vehicle to protect you and the broken-down vehicle from traffic. Turn on hazard lights.

§3. Make yourself visible and mark

  • 01Wear visible work clothes with reflectors before going out
  • 02Place warning triangle at an appropriate distance
  • 03If possible get the customer to safety behind the guardrail

§4. Work facing traffic

Position yourself so you can see approaching vehicles and always have an escape route. Never be trapped between two vehicles.
