Template: Preparation before concrete pouring

The points that determine whether the cast will be good — the check before the concrete comes

Concrete pouring is unforgiving: once the concrete is poured and cured, you cannot redo it. That is why a good pour is decided by what happens before the truck arrives. Use this template to work through the structure.

§Formwork and reinforcement

  • 01Is the mould set up in correct dimensions and completely level and plumb?
  • 02Is the formwork braced so it does not give way under pressure?
  • 03Is the reinforcement in place with correct concrete cover?
  • 04Has debris, leaves and water been cleaned from the bottom?

§Apprenticeship and staffing

  • 01Is there enough staff to receive and distribute the concrete?
  • 02Are tools for vibrating and levelling ready?
  • 03Is the access route for pump or car clear?

§Just before

Go through the entire mold one last time together with a colleague. Two pairs of eyes catch more than one, and it's the cheapest insurance you can take out just before the concrete comes.
