Systematic overview that helps you choose correctly
§1. Material
- 01What base material are we talking about: black steel, stainless steel, or aluminum?
- 02Does the material require special considerations (e.g. sensitisation, oxide skin)?
- 03Are there requirements for stabilized or low-carbon filler material?
§2. Good thickness and filler type
- 01How thick is the material, and should a joint be prepared?
- 02Are there requirements for root penetration pointing towards a specific method?
- 03Has the raw material been handled correctly up to now?
§3. Position and workplace
- 01Can the workpiece be turned to an easy position, or does it have to be welded vertically/overhead?
- 02Does the work happen indoors or outdoors where draught can blow the cover gas away?
- 03Is there room for equipment, gas cylinders, and suction at the site?
§4. Requirements for the finished assembly
- 01What quality level must the seam meet?
- 02Is there a requirement for an approved WPS and certified welder for the task?
- 03Should the joint be documented or checked afterwards?
