One common basic education three different work days
The service assistant qualification is based on a shared professional foundation: cleaning technology hygiene chemistry ergonomics and service. But as you progress through the education the path splits. You can specialise as a cleaning technician in hospital services or in business services — three directions with the same professional backbone but widely different working days and workplaces.
§The common basis
Regardless of which direction you choose, you learn the same fundamental skills: cleaning methods and method selection, hygiene and infection prevention, safe handling of chemicals, ergonomic work techniques and professional service and communication. This common foundation is what makes service assistants broadly applicable in the job market — regardless of speciality, you can be deployed wherever skilled facility services are needed.
§School and internship in all three paths
All three specialties follow the same basic structure: you alternate between school courses at a vocational school and internship in a company or institution where you are a paid apprentice. The internship site depends naturally on your specialty – hospital service apprentices train in hospitals, while business service apprentices often train with private companies and offices. The alternating structure means you can constantly test the theory in practice while you are training.
§Cleaning technique – the specialist in professional cleaning
The specialization cleaning technology is aimed at you who want to go deeper into the cleaning trade itself: method selection for demanding surfaces, measuring and assessing cleaning quality according to standards such as DS/INSTA 800, and solving special cleaning tasks that require more specialized knowledge than everyday cleaning. This is the path for you who especially care about the technique and the craft itself.
§Hospital service — close to patients and staff
The specialization hospital service takes you to hospitals and hospital wards, where you work closely with nurses and doctors. Here the tasks are not only about cleaning, but also about practical patient-facing service.

§How do you choose?
The choice of specialty is about where you would most like to use your skills. If you thrive best with people close by, and the healthcare service framework appeals to you, much points towards hospital service. If you are more into the administrative and practical life of a workplace, business services fit better. And if you are passionate about cleaning skills themselves — methods, quality and technique — cleaning engineering is the way forward. All three give you a solid trade with stable demand.
