Environmentally sound and green cleaning
Clean result with minimum load
Cleaning leaves traces in the environment – in the form of chemicals that end up in wastewater, water and energy consumption, waste packaging and impact on the indoor climate. Environmentally sound cleaning tries to do the job with minimal impact without compromising hygiene. Often it is precisely the professional method – the right procedure and dosage – that is both cleanest and most environmentally friendly.
§Less and right chemistry
The simplest environmental gain is to use less chemicals. Correct dosing and good mechanical friction removes most dirt, and some surfaces can be cleaned with water and microfibre alone. Choose eco-labelled products where possible and avoid unnecessary special products when a universal cleaner does the job.
§Environmental labels
Environmental labels help you choose products that have been assessed on environmental and health grounds throughout their lifecycle. The most well-known in Denmark are the Swan Label and the EU Flower. An environmental label is no guarantee that a product is harmless — you must still read the label and safety data sheet — but it is a good guideline when purchasing and choosing.

§Microfibre and water
Microfibre cloths and mops remove dirt and microorganisms mechanically and can on many surfaces be used with water alone or very little product. This saves chemicals and gives good results. On the other hand, microfibre places demands on correct washing and maintenance so the fibres retain their effectiveness. Also think about water consumption: damp cleaning with wrung-out cloths uses far less water than wet cleaning.
§Waste and sorting
As a service assistant you handle waste daily and are often the one who empties and sorts. Follow your workplace's sorting system and keep fractions separate — cardboard plastic residual waste and possibly food waste. Empty chemical containers and hazardous waste must be disposed of according to the instructions on the safety data sheet and must not end up in regular waste.
