Spraying with epoxy and isocyanates: time and staffing

How many days does the spraying work take when the spraying time per person is limited?

Answer: Epoxy and isocyanates must as a rule not be sprayed outside closed systems, spray booths and spray boxes (appendix 2, section 4.1). Exceptions include ships, offshore, bridges, tanks and sports floors (section 4.2.4-4.2.11), and there section 4.3 sets a ceiling on the spraying time for the individual: two periods of 2 hours in larger rooms or in the open, maximum 5 hours under optimal conditions, two periods of 1 hour in very difficult to access spaces and three periods of 1 hour with unsuitable working positions. The calculator works out the spraying hours based on area and your own spraying capacity and shows how many days it takes.

Formula

Sprøjtetimer = areal · antal lag ÷ sprøjtekapacitet.

Loft pr. person pr. dag (bilag 2, pkt. 4.3): 2 × 2 t = 4 t · optimale forhold 5 t · 3 × 1 t = 3 t · 2 × 1 t = 2 t.

Arbejdsdage = sprøjtetimer ÷ (loft · antal sprøjtere), rundet op.

The work must be notified in writing to Arbejdstilsynet at least 14 days before start (annex 2, sec. 5.1).

Does not apply when

The ceiling only applies to spray workers in the exceptions, points 4.2.4-4.2.11. In closed systems, booths and boxes it doesn't apply and outside the exceptions you can't spray at all. Spraying outside a booth is high-risk work and also requires the supplementary isocyanate course (AMU 21204) if the product contains isocyanates. Spraying capacity is your own experience figure for equipment and item.

Indvendig coating af en vandtank

En vandtank med 400 m² indvendig flade skal have 2 lag epoxy. Tanken er et meget vanskeligt tilgængeligt rum, og I sprøjter ca. 40 m² i timen hver. I er to sprøjtere.
