Asbestos: time in respiratory protection and staffing

How many days does the remediation take, and how many of us are needed?

Answer: The Asbestos Order sets a limit on how many hours an individual may work in respiratory protection per day: 6 hours with airline protection or turbomask, 4 hours with airline protection or turbomask in demolition (with break no later than after 2 hours continuous work), and 3 hours with filtering protection without turbo (§ 25). Enter how many hours in protection the task requires in total, which protection you use, and how many you are. The calculator shows how many working days it will take, and how many people are needed to finish within the time you have.

Formula

Ceiling per person per day: 6 h (supplied/turbo), 4 h (supplied/turbo during demolition), 3 h (filtering without turbo) — BEK 1328/2025 section 25, paragraphs 2-4.

Arbejdsdage = timer i værn i alt ÷ (loft pr. person · antal personer), rundet op.

Personer = timer i værn i alt ÷ (loft pr. person · antal dage), rundet op.

When dismantling, a break must be taken no later than after 2 hours of uninterrupted work (section 25, subsection 3).

Does not apply when

  • The ceiling is the highest, not a target. Section 25, paragraph 1 says that use of respiratory protection should be limited to what's strictly necessary and breaks are set according to load and temperature. Time for undressing, cleaning, decontamination and showering comes on top. The hour total for the task is your own estimate from the work plan.

Step by step

  1. Skøn hvor mange timer i åndedrætsværn opgaven kræver i alt, fx ud fra arbejdsplanen.
  2. Vælg værn og arbejde: luftforsynet eller turbo (6 t), det samme ved nedrivning (4 t), eller filtrerende uden turbo (3 t).
  3. Indtast hvor mange I er, og hvor mange dage I har.
  4. Læs dage og bemanding af, og læg tid til sluse og dekontaminering oveni.

Typical errors

  • At planlægge efter en fuld arbejdsdag i værn. Loftet er 6, 4 eller 3 timer.
  • At glemme pauserne ved nedrivning: senest efter 2 timers uafbrudt arbejde.
  • At tro at loftet er et mål. Brugen skal begrænses til det strengt nødvendige.

Nedrivning af asbestholdig rørisolering

Nedrivningen af rørisolering i kælderen kræver ca. 48 timer i turbomaske. I er tre, og kunden vil have det færdigt på tre dage.

Rule of thumb

Filtrerende værn giver halvt så mange timer pr. dag som luftforsynet uden nedrivning.
