Checklist: evaluation of wind and weather before lifting in open

The points that determine whether the lift is safe

§Wind

  • 01The current and expected wind is known for the lifting period
  • 02The manufacturer's wind limit for the crane is read and observed
  • 03Account has been taken of the fact that wind is often stronger high up than at ground level

§The load

  • 01The load's windage is assessed — large flat loads catch a lot of wind
  • 02Tyreline is clear if the burden can swing or turn
  • 03It has been assessed whether a wind-catching load requires a lower wind limit than the crane's

§Sieve and base

  • 01Sight conditions allow the driver and signal giver to see the load and area
  • 02The substrate is not icy and mechanics and equipment are not frozen.
  • 03In doubt about wind or visibility the lift is postponed until conditions are better
