Control points for exceptional use of crane to lift people
§Is the exception the right solution?
- 01The task is occasional and brief — not a recurring work task
- 02A purpose-built aid (lift, patient lift, scaffolding) is assessed and rejected for good reason
- 03No one under 18 should be in the basket
§Work curve
- 01The basket is suitable and designed for the purpose — not improvised on the spot
- 02Railing, floor and suspension are checked and the suspension cannot tip off the hook
- 03Total weight of basket and persons is safely within the crane and equipment capacity
- 04There is a proven method to lower the load if the crane's normal function fails
§Crane, operator and communication
- 01A certified crane operator remains in charge of the operation throughout the lift
- 02The people in the cage have radio contact with the crane operator
- 03Emergency procedure in case of power or hydraulic failure is agreed and known to all involved.
