Standard solutions to everyday percentage calculations
Quick procedures you can use over and over again
§Find 10% of a number

§Calculate a discount

- 02Deduct the discount from the original price
- 03Check with an estimate whether result seems reasonable
§How large a part is something?
If you want to know what percentage a part is of a whole, you divide the part by the whole and multiply by 100. Example: 30 out of 60 is 30 divided by 60, which is a half, so 50 %.
§Always use an estimate as a check
- 01Round the numbers to something you can easily calculate
- 02Make a list of seamstresses, tailors, fashion companies and productions in your area and beyond.
- 03Compare — does the precise answer roughly match the estimate?
