For some FVU is a goal in itself: to become comfortable reading a work instruction writing a message or doing maths in everyday life. For others it becomes a springboard — a safe place to regain courage to learn before taking a bigger step. Both are equally valid.

Stronger reading, writing and arithmetic make everyday life easier, but they are also the foundation of almost all other education. Many adults discover that what once seemed impossible — a course, a trade certificate, an exam — suddenly becomes possible when the basic skills are more firmly established.

Education and vocational counseling is free and available in several places. A counselor can help you get an overview of the options, figure out what is required, and look at whether there are support possibilities. Asking for counseling is a wise start, not a sign of uncertainty.
§Take one step at a time
It can seem overwhelming to think about a whole education at once. But just like FVU is built up in steps, the way forward can be taken step by step. The most important thing is to get started and to have someone to talk to along the way.
Many who start FVU discover along the way that they can do more than they thought. That experience is often the most important thing FVU gives — the belief that you can learn new things regardless of where you start.
