What is FVU, and who is it for?
Steps trades and frameworks in preparation adult education
Preparatory adult education abbreviated FVU is teaching for adults who want to become better at reading writing or counting. It is an offer to quite ordinary people — many have a job and manage everyday life fine but experience that precisely reading writing or mathematics is more troublesome than they would like.
§What subjects are there?
FVU is divided into different subject areas. The most well-known are FVU-reading, which deals with reading, writing and understanding Danish, and FVU-mathematics, which deals with everyday numbers and calculations. Each subject area is again divided into levels, so you can start where you are and build from there.
§Teaching in steps.
The idea of steps is simple: you start at the level that suits your current skills, and progress further as you improve. That way it's neither too difficult nor too easy. The steps also make it possible to set concrete, manageable goals along the way.

§How you find a mentor and use mentoring
Before you start, you usually have a short, non-binding assessment with a mentor or instructor. It's not an exam you can fail — it's to find the level where the teaching makes the most sense for you. It's a good idea to be honest about what's difficult so the level is right.
§How does it work in practice?
FVU can take place at an adult education center, but also at workplaces or other places that are easy to access. Classes are often small, and the teaching is practical and tied to everyday life. In many places, teaching can be arranged to fit with work — for example in the evening or in agreed courses with the employer.
FVU is free, and the goal is to make everyday life and work easier. For many, it also becomes a safe first step toward daring to pursue more education.
