Transfer check: lifting without damaging yourself

A fixed habit that protects your back on every shift

Most back injuries in the field do not occur from one dramatic lift but from many small incorrect twists over time. A fixed moving habit is the cheapest insurance you have.

§Before you lift

  • 01Assess weight and space: can it be done safely?
  • 02Find the right aid — slider, stretcher or lift.
  • 03Arrange with your partner who counts and who does what.

§The actual relocation

  • 01Stand with good distance between your feet for a stable base.
  • 02Bend at the knees, keep your back in good posture, and avoid twisting.
  • 03Keep the load close to your body and lift with your legs.
  • 04Move slowly and in a coordinated manner — do not jerk the load.
