The construction year gives away the hazardous substances
The environmental screening does not guess. It looks up the construction year in the Danish EPA's building atlas and gives a band per substance.

Four bands
For each building part and each substance, the screening gives a band: high, possible, low or not assessed. It is a period lookup in the building atlas (Environmental Project no. 2269), not a sample.

Three houses, three answers for PCB
A house from 1943 gets PCB “low”. A house from 1958 gets PCB “high”. A house from 1923 that was converted in 1972 gets PCB “possible”.

Why “possible” after a conversion
The conversion in 1972 adds the period 1950–1977, but BBR does not say which parts the conversion covered. That is why PCB becomes “possible” and not “high”.

Only a preliminary screening
The screening is based on the registers and the building atlas, not on inspection or samples, and it cannot clear a building. If the band is “possible” or “high”, the material must be investigated before you work on it.
Next step: Guide: What is PCB?
Where PCB is found in houses from about 1950 to 1977 – joints, sealed glazing units and paint – and how to test for it.
Next step: Guide: Lead and heavy metals
Where lead and heavy metals are found in older houses, the limit values, and when lead-based paint requires lead remediation.
