In October 2025, the EU adopted a new, modernised driving licence directive. The most important news for bus drivers: 21-year-olds can drive cat. D if they have code 95. But the rules take effect at the earliest in 2029.
Introduction
The European Parliament and Council adopted in October 2025 a new driving license directive that replaces the current Directive 2006/126/EC. The directive modernizes the rules and allows for a lower age limit for bus driving—but EU countries have 3 years after publication in the EU Official Journal to implement it nationally, plus 1 year of preparation. This means the current Danish rules apply until at earliest November 26, 2029.
