Since 1 October 2025, most people get code 95 through the direct initial qualification test. Here are the steps, the parts of the test and the minimum durations, the stricter requirements from June 2026 and how old you must be to drive a bus with the certificate.
Introduction
Since 1 October 2025, the initial qualifications are as a rule obtained by passing a direct test. There is no requirement for prior teaching, but many take a voluntary course. This article is the practical step-by-step version. The background is in »Driver qualification certificate & code 95« and »How to become a bus driver in Denmark«.
The steps
- 01Bus driving licence: D1 (minibus) or D (large bus).
- 02Prepare — on your own or on a voluntary course.
- 03Book the written test at least 7 days in advance.
- 04Written tests: at least 4 hours in total, with at least one question on each subject in Annex 1 (BEK 412/2025, § 19(1)).
- 05Driving test: at least 90 minutes (§ 19(2)).
- 06Practical test: at least 30 minutes (§ 19(2)).
- 07If you pass both the written and the practical parts, you can apply for the driver qualification certificate (§ 14(5)). It is valid for 5 years (§ 25).
