What you can build on as a skilled receptionist
A journeyman's certificate as a receptionist is not a final station — it is a foundation. The trade gives you competence in service communication coordination and leadership on a small scale which you can build on in many directions. Here is an overview of what you can tackle once the foundation is in place.
§Shorter courses and specialisation
The quickest path to more is often short, targeted courses. You can improve yourself in a booking system, a new language, sales, digital marketing or conflict management. Many workplaces view it positively when you continuously update yourself — and it often opens up new tasks and responsibility internally.
§Towards front office management
With experience you can move from reception towards team leader and management roles in front office. It is about taking responsibility for rotas training new colleagues the overall guest experience and interaction with the rest of the house. Here you build on the trade with management economic understanding and personnel responsibility.
§Higher education in service and tourism
If you want to go further in the education system, there are higher educations in service, experience, tourism and hospitality. Here you work more with management, economics, sales and strategy. Access requirements vary and sometimes you need to supplement with individual subjects — but your professional background and practical experience is a good starting point.

§EUX as shortcut to further studies
If you choose the EUX path, you combine the journeyman certificate with higher education subjects. This gives you a broader access basis if you later want to study further, because you have both a skilled qualification and academic skills. It is worth considering already when you start if you think you will later study.

There is no fixed sequence. Some stay in reception and become really skilled at the craft; others use the trade as a springboard to management or completely new industries. Talk to a study counselor look at specific admission requirements and choose the next step that suits you — instead of following a standard route.
