Checklist: safe composite work with styrene and epoxy
Points you need to be clear on before, during, and after working with reactive resins
Review the list before you open a can of resin, glue or lacquer. Most accidents with chemicals in plastics happen because a single point is skipped in a busy day.
§Before you start
- 01Have you read the safety data sheet and workplace instructions for this specific product?
- 02Is the PTO shield and other shields intact?
- 03Do you have the right protective equipment ready — gloves, eye protection and possibly respiratory protection?
- 04Is there access to eyewash and first aid equipment near the workplace?
§During the work.
- 01Are you using point extraction close to the actual work area, not just room ventilation?
- 02Do you change gloves if they become saturated with resin or glue?
- 03Do you avoid skin contact with hardeners and isocyanate-containing products?
- 04Do you stick to the mixing instructions and curing time the product prescribes?
§After work
- 01Do you change work clothes that have been wetted with resin or glue?
- 02Is the cleaning tool and work surface cleaned with the specified solvent?
- 03Are residues and empty containers disposed of according to the company's chemical waste procedure?
- 04Have you washed your hands and possibly exposed skin thoroughly before leaving the work site?
