Work process: quality control of cast parts
How to systematically check whether the parts are good — and find the cause if they are not
Follow these steps when you check items during production. The goal is not just to sort out bad parts, but to catch and correct the cause early.
§1. Visual inspection
- 01Is the item fully filled or is material missing?
- 02Are there air bubbles, burn marks, indentations, or discoloration?
- 03Is the surface even and without burrs where the mould closes?
§2. Measure and weight
Measure important dimensions and possibly weigh the part. Deviations in size or weight often reveal that something in the setting has changed before the eye sees it.
§3. Find the cause
In case of an error: what does it point to? Incomplete filling can be caused by too low pressure or too low temperature; bubbles can be caused by damp material. Knowing the connections means you fix the problem instead of guessing.
§4. Confirm and document
- 01Check new pieces after a correction until they are good and stable
- 02Note deviations and corrections if the task requires it
- 03Keep an eye forward — a deviation can creep back in
A production that is continuously monitored delivers uniform parts and wastes the least material.
