Checklist: preparation of car for periodic inspection

Use the checklist from end to end at each inspection preparation, and tick or note errors for each point. Remember: cars must undergo periodic inspection for the first time 4 years after first registration and then every 2 years.

§1. Cabin and external functions

• 01Horn works.
• 02All safety harnesses roll out, lock with a jerk, and lock in the fitting.
• 03Warning lights: no active fault lights (engine control, ABS, airbag) after startup.
• 04Wipers and washers work; wiper blades without streaks.
• 05Mirrors and/or cameras (blind spot): adjustment OK, no cracks.
• 06Number plates intact, legible and correctly mounted.

§2. Lights and sign painting

• 01Dipped beam, high beam, position light, rear lights, number plate light – all bulbs work.
• 02Brake lights (all including the high) and reversing lights work.
• 03Indicator lights and hazard lights work all the way around.
• 04Fog lights front/rear work and indicator light lights up.
• 05Lantern setting checked with lantern adjustment apparatus and adjusted.

§3. Brakes

• 01Brake test on roll stand: braking effect and skewed traction within limits.
• 02Parking brake: function and drift in order.
• 03Brake discs/drums and blocks: wear and rust assessed at all wheels.
• 04Brake hoses and pipes: no cracks tarnishing or leaks.
• 05Brake fluid: level and age/boiling point checked.

§4. Steering, undercarriage and tyres

• 01Haze control on lift: guide balls, bearing balls, tie-rod ends and bushings.
• 02Shock absorbers: no leakage, effect assessed.
• 03Springs: no breaks.
• 04Seals on steering components and drive axles all.
• 05Pattern depth measured in several tracks on all tires — legal requirement minimum 1.6 mm.
• 06Tires without damage, age cracks, or abnormal wear pattern; tire pressure adjusted.

§5. Engine, exhaust and bottom

• 01Exhaust tight and securely suspended.
• 02No significant oil or fluid leaks.
• 03Bodywork's load-bearing parts and panels checked for corrosion.
• 04No sharp edges or loose parts under the vehicle.
• 05Check engine light off, and any fixed faults verified by test drive — not just cleared.
