What you may do, what you need to be able to document, and who is watching
You work in the middle of a healthcare system where it matters who may do what. Although you as a hospital technician assistant are not an independently authorised healthcare professional in the same way as, for example, a doctor or nurse, you work in a field where rules, responsibility and documentation are absolutely central. It is important to have control over the framework you work within.
§The education certificate is your professional key.
Your formal proof that you are qualified to work in the trade is the education certificate, which the professional committee issues when you have passed the final examination and completed your training. The certificate documents that you have the competences appropriate to your specialty – such as performing hearing assessments or neurophysiological measurements at a professionally sound level.
§Delegated responsibility
On a hospital ward, you often carry out your examinations within the framework that a doctor or other responsible professional has set. You receive a request, carry out the examination according to the guidelines that apply to the ward, and document the result so the doctor can interpret and act on it. You must know the limits of what you can assess and decide yourself and when you should pass your assessment on.
§Journal requirement and patient rights
Everything you do around a patient must, as a rule, be documented in the patient record. This is a matter both of patient safety and of enabling other professionals to follow the course of care. You must also know the fundamental patient rights – for example, that the patient must give consent to the examination and be informed in a way that can be understood.
§Confidentiality obligation and data protection

§Certificates and local requirements
Beyond your education itself your workplace may require for example updated first aid hygiene courses or equipment-specific training before you are allowed to operate certain devices independently. These are not common national certificates for the entire trade but practical requirements that vary from department to department so ask your workplace what applies specifically for you.
