Biomedical technician assistant

As a hospital technical assistant you combine technology and care. You examine patients with advanced medical equipment and help doctors find the right diagnosis. The training makes you a skilled professional who can both operate sensitive equipment and meet the patient with calm and reassurance.

§What do you do in everyday life?

Your day is close to patients at for example an audiological neurophysiological or cardiac medicine department. You prepare the patient put on measuring equipment and conduct examinations that measure hearing brain nerves or heart. You read the results ensure the equipment works accurately and explain to the patient what will happen. Your work gives the doctor the foundation a good treatment is built on.

§How do you get started?

You start with a basic course at a vocational school and then find a practical placement in a hospital ward, where you enter an education agreement. The course alternates between school stays and practice at the hospital, and you get paid while you train.

As a hospital technical assistant you can specialise further within your professional area such as audiology or neurophysiology. You can take further education and courses that give more responsibility and you have a solid foundation if you later want to go further within healthcare technology or other parts of the healthcare system.
