Introduction
Quality assurance (QA) of load-bearing and climate-envelope structures is mandatory under BR18 chapter 35. It is not just paperwork — it is the systematic inspection that ensures the structure is built as the project requires and that errors are detected before they are hidden behind cladding and plaster.
Three control phases

Receiving inspection
When structural timber is delivered, the carpenter must verify: correct dimensions and grading quality, CE marking and strength grading certificate (DS/EN 14081-1—mandatory for load-bearing timber), moisture content (typically 12% ± 3% for delivery—measure with moisture meter), and that the shipment matches the project. Deviations are noted in form 2 and the supplier is contacted.
