From craft's temporary scaffolding to regulated and certified trade

Scaffolding is not a new phenomenon. For as long as building has taken place at heights, craftspeople have needed a temporary platform to work from. In recent times, the Danish scaffolding trade has moved from a loosely defined craft practice — loose pipes, boards and couplings assembled according to experience — to a regulated trade with European standards, legally required training and documented inspections. This article focuses on the development we can document; older, local guild rules are mentioned only generically, because they are difficult to verify.
